In order to avoid ecological catastrophes like that of the oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in spring 2010, five of the biggest oil companies have developed a new containment system called the “Marine Well Containment System (MWCS)”. Aubert & Duval have developed, in a very short period of time, a bespoke metallurgical solution capable of absorbing extreme fatigue stresses.
PARTNERSHIP
ExxonMobil, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, BP and Shell have joined together in a consortium to design a new anti-pollution containment well system. The system will be available at each drilling site and, should an incident occur, it can be operational in less than 24 hours.
A WORLD FIRST
Ever attentive to their customers, Aubert & Duval have positioned themselves to be able to provide a metallurgical solution suitable for the technical constraints of the project. Aubert & Duval will provide very long, open-die forged parts (over 12m in length) with increased fatigue resistance, made possible by the development of a steel grade adapted to the needs of our customer. This solution will be integrated into the final system, which should be available in 2012.
